Hi guys! 👋 Welcome to a TUTORIAL post! Today, you will be learning how to draw a face with eyes, a nose, a mouth and hair. Let’s get started!
✨YOU WILL NEED:
- a piece of paper/a sketchbook 📖
- a pencil or a mechanical pencil 🖊
- an eraser
- colouring pencils and pens (if you want) 🖍
🎨 BEFORE WE START:
Here are a few recommendations for this exercise:
- Sit comfortably, your back straight
- Sit in front of a window, natural light will make this exercise more enjoyable for you
- Listen to some relaxing music, it will help you concentrate
- Take your time! You don’t need to rush it
- Don’t compare. This one is very important. Your drawing is going to be awesome, so please don’t say “That person did the eyes better than me” or “My art sucks” because it demotivates you into creating great art.
- Make mistakes! This must seem a strange suggestion, but trust me, the more mistakes you do, the better and the faster you will learn.
- Keep practicing! You might not have made a nice drawing on the first try, so take a break and start again later.
ARE YOU READY? LET’S GO! ⏳
☁ STEP 1. Take a piece of paper or your sketchbook, your pencil and your eraser and draw a circle in the middle of the page.
☁ STEP 2.
Draw a “U” kind of shape under the circle, this will be the jawline and the chin.
☁ STEP 3.
Make the neck, if should look like this: (Also, remember that you can draw a long neck, short neck, thin or thick, it really depends on how you want your character to look like! This also applies to the shape of the head and the ears.)
☁ STEP 4.
Let’s start drawing the facial features. You will fist want to draw two lines, one horizontal for the eyes, and another vertical, cutting line 1 in two, for the nose and the mouth, like this:
☁ STEP 5.
Now, draw two small curving lines a few centimetres above the chin line, these are the lips.
☁ STEP 6.
Finish up the lips and draw two small dots just above the upper lip, these are the nostrils.
☁ STEP 7.
Do you remember the horizontal line we did a few steps ago? Place the eyes shape: they are slightly oval, but with two pointy bits at each end, like an almond:
☁ STEP 8.
Draw the two ears, starting just below the eye line and finishing just above the eye
☁ STEP 9.
Now it’s time for the details! Add eyebrows, the pupils and the lips, like this:
☁ STEP 10.
Now you can add accessories, the hair, earrings, necklaces, makeup, etc… Be creative! Here are a few examples for you:
