Hey guys, welcome back to another tutorial post!
In today’s (short) post we will be creating a small inspiration book (I’ll explain what it is later).
Before we begin, please note that next week I won’t be able to share any post because I’ll be really busy, and won’t have time to sit down and write, *sights*. But no worries, I be straight back with a special “10 art tips” post!
If you have enjoyed my posts and blog content so far, please consider subscribing (get free stuff, too!). If you think a few of your friends might like this blog, don’t hesitate to share it with them! It encourages me heaps, you guys are the best! Feel free to comment down below blog post ideas, suggestions, feedback and more.
And without any further ado, let’s get onto it!
What is an Inspiration Book?
An Inspiration Book is a small notebook or sketchbook with all the artworks and drawings that inspire you the most.
You can find images of painting from famous classical artists or just some photos that you like, that motivate you to create art.
It is a handbook for when you are feeling unmotivated to draw; or on the contrary, motivated but don’t know what to draw (Typical artist problem ^-^).
This small inspiration book can be very useful when you have no idea what to draw, and don’t want to spend hours looking at artworks on the internet. Simply open your book, select a few drawings you like, mix them together to make a masterpiece, or just come up with your own ideas, inspired by your favorite works.
You will need:
- A small A4 or A3 notebook with blank, lined or dotted pages
- coloring pencils, pens, markers, pencils, gel/glitter pens, whatever you wish
- decorative stationery such as washi tape, stickers, Kraft paper, newspaper, stamps…
- a glue stick, liquid glue or any other format/type of glue. I personally recommend Mod Podge glue, but any other brand will do.
- and finally: one, two (or even three!) sheets of paper where you will have printed a few of your favorite drawings from other artists. You can find those on Pinterest, Instagram or even Google.
Step 1: Decorate the front cover of your notebook
In this step, you can decorate the cover of the notebook with stickers, washi tape and many other things… Be creative!
Step 2: Write the name of the notebook on the first page
This step is not mandatory, you don’t have to do it! You can write “Inspiration Book” or “Art References Notebook” or even “Fun References” as the book title. As an example for this post, I’ll call it my “Inspiration Book”.
Step 3: Cut out the photos you have printed, and stick them in!
Now, cut the drawings out and stick them however you want in your book. Display them per categories, colors, your favorite photos first, or in no specified no order at all.
Make sure to fit the photos to the size of the book’s pages.
Step 4: Decorate the pages with your decorative stationery
Now you can decorate the pages as you please. Add stickers, draw around the photos, write your thoughts about each drawing, write lists and drawing ideas, line the pages with washi tape, etc... Remember, this book of references is yours, so do anything you want in it. Have fun creating!
I hope you enjoyed this DIY art post, tell me what I can write about in future posts in the comments below.
