Digital Illustration with Krita 5.0.5 : Full video + my art process explained

Hello dear readers,

Welcome, welcome back to the blog!

I hope you’ve had a great week, and that you are enjoying the month of August.

A few weeks ago I started a new digital illustration on Krita 5.0.5 (art program) and a XP pen tablet.

I’ve been sharing the different illustration steps on social media, and today, I will be sharing the final process video from sketch to colour with a few comments on the way :)

If you are interested in purchasing the brushes I use in this video, they are available on my Gumroad shop (https://sketchbookdraws.gumroad.com/), at: https://sketchbookdraws.gumroad.com/l/graphite-universe-pencils-bundle-6brushes?layout=profile

Let’s go!

The full process of “Girl with apricots”:

Art process comments:

1. I start my illustration by making a sketch in my sketchbook or on a spare sheet of paper. I usually only use a pencil, or a black fineliner if I want to do line-art.

2. I take a picture of the final sketch and upload it to the art program I use, which in this case is Krita (version 5.0.5). It creates the first layer (let’s call it layer OS) of the file.

3. I create a new layer (layer S) above the image (layer OS) and start drawing.

4. I clean up the final digital sketch (layer S) and create a new layer below (layer C) to start colouring. (This colour layer is underneath the sketch layer so that we can still see the digital sketch.)

5. I colour the final sketch and finish up the details.

6. I can now delete the first layer (layer OS) and the digital illustration is done!
