Hi everyone! Merry Christmas to all of you!
Welcome, I’m Charlotte (A.K.A @SketchbookDraws) if you are new to this blog.
Today, to celebrate Christmas, I will be answering a few questions such as “Who are your favorite artists?” or “How do you find inspiration?”. Feel free to copy the questions, answer them yourself and post it on your blog or social media.
Before we begin, please share this post with your friends and family, it helps a lot. Thank you in advance.
Let’s go!
Question 1: “How often do you draw?”
I try to draw every day, but it’s hard. I do doodle a small thing once a day, though.
I usually pick up my sketchbook in the late afternoons, after I’ve finished my school work (I'm home schooled, if you didn’t know. Comment #HomeschoolPower if you are home schooled too!), and that only if I have some free time.
However, during the holidays, or weekends, you will always find me knee-deep in art supplies, scribbling away in my favorite sketchbook, or reading yet another art book (re-reading it for the 10th time, at least *giggles*).
Question 2: “Who are your favorite artists?”
I’ll tell you everything about them in another post, so stay tuned to find out!
Question 3: “For how long have you been drawing?”
I started drawing ever since I could hold a pencil, but I really started improving and drawing more frequently at the age of eleven. I am now 14 and loving my trip in the world of art!
Question 4: “Do you prefer drawing humans or animals?”
Um… hard question. I’m definitely better at drawing humans, but I still enjoy experimenting with animal studies. I love the fact that every body is made out of simple shapes, watching how the environment interacts with the animal’s body, and looking at the colors of the skin, fur or feathers.
Question 5: “What was the last thing you drew?”
A few day ago, I celebrated my fourteenth birthday (Yay!) and I received an old Scrawlr box (the June 2021 box) as a gift.
You should have seen how ecstatic I was seeing it, by the way. And so, I tried out all the art supplies that were included in the box. I made an extremely bad watercolor drawing of a face. (*sights heavily*)
Question 6: “Do you have an OC (original character)?”
Yes, I do! She is called Alina Glasstone and she is my very first OC.
I drew her with the scratch.mit.edu vector program. I made a project about Alina, with her design and backstory, if you would like to check it out (at: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/623787199/ ).
The drawing itself is a little out of date, I may do a redesign one day, though. I’m also working on other characters, and some small projects that shall never see the day, sadly (*grins widely*)
Question 7: “What decade or era had the best art in your opinion?”
Ha, I would have to write a whole book to answer this question. Next, please! :P
Question 8: “What do you want to improve on with your art?”
Human and animal proportions. Landscapes. I still struggle slightly with watercolor, too. I’d also want to improve on getting my thoughts and emotions onto the paper better. Otherwise, I am proud and confident in my art.
Question 9: “Who is your favorite classical artist?”
Uhhhh that’s too hard! Does artists, count? Because I have a bunch of favorite painters and I just can’t decide witch one is the best. Choosing who is your favorite artist is modern torture for any artist. Including for me.
I really like Pablo Picasso’s works because he reflects so much emotion into his paintings, I also like Henri Matisse with is paintings of Collioure, and many others...
Question 10: “How do you find inspiration?”
I love scrolling away on Pinterest, it’s a great website for inspiration. Artists around the world post their masterpieces on this platform and I love looking at what people can come up with.
I also love looking at scratch.mit.edu projects and watching YouTube videos.
However, my greatest and most influential inspiration is the world around us: my emotions, my family, my friends, and my life in general.
Question 11: “How many sketchbooks have you filled?”
Only two for the moment, :) Sketchbook tour video coming soon, hopefully.
Question 12: “What are you currently working on?”
I’m currently working on improving my art skills & drawing like crazy. Trying to find the next perfect sketchbook to fill (Because, beware sketchbooks, I’m really picky).
More things such as school, my art channel, this art blog, writing my book + working on a very, very, BIG secret project. (OoOOohhhh...)
Question 13: “What is your favorite place to create in?”
On my desk, in my bedroom, with my cat curled up on my lap. I also like drawing in the garden, or traveling with my sketchbook and drawing what I can see.
Question 14: “On average, how long does it take for you to make a drawing?”
Up to one and a half hours, if not more. It can take a few days since i like taking a few regular breaks so that I can refuel my imagination to improve the piece.
Question 15: “Do you listen to music or watch videos while working?”
Yes, I have started watching YouTube videos whilst I draw. I have realized that it helps me concentrate and motivates me into creating more content. I also like listening to soft music during my drawing sessions.
Question 16: “Are you able to sit down and finish a piece in one go, or do you need to take multiple breaks?”
Refer to Question 14. It usually depends, but I like taking multiple short breaks to boost my creativity.
Question 17: “What is your favorite animal?”
I absolutely adore lions, they are the most majestic animals ever. My second favorites are eagles and cats. I really like drawing all their expressions, and just sitting down to capture a moment in the life of cat and that the drawing turns out well is so gratifying.
That’s it for the FAQ! Thank you for reading all the way to the end. I hope you enjoyed the ride and got to know me a little bit better.
Thanks to @KirbyMountain and his scratch project (link: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/778160398/ ) for giving me the idea for this post. If you want to answer these questions too, save this post for later.
Merry Christmas everyone, and see you next time for the New Year’s Special post.
Bye!
